How to Size Your Belt (The Right Way)

How to Size Your Belt (The Right Way)

if you’ve ever ordered a belt online only to find out it’s too long or too short, you know the frustration. The good news is—sizing your belt doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, it’s super simple once you know the two main methods. Today I’ll walk you through them step-by-step and clear up a few common questions along the way.

Method 1: The Quick Math Rule

The most common way to figure out your belt size is by taking your pant waist size and adding two inches.

So if you wear a 34 in jeans, your belt size will usually be a 36.

✅ This works most of the time, but there’s an even more accurate method that I recommend if you have a belt at home you already wear.

Method 2: Measuring your Current Belt (Most Accurate Way)

This is the method I personally use and teach customers—it takes the guesswork out of sizing.

1. Grab Your Tape Measure

2. Line it up at the fold
you’ll want to start measuring right where the leather folds over the buckle.

3. Measure to your most-used hole.
Ignore the curve your belt has taken on over time—just go straight across to the hole you use most often.

    4. Check the measurement.
That number is your belt size.

👉 If it lands on something like 32 ¼” or 31 ¾”, just round up to the nearest whole number. This gives you extra room and ensures you’ve got a couple of holes to work with.

    Final Tips

    • Always round up if you’re between sizes.

    • Remember that belt sizes don’t always match pant

    • A properly sized belt will have the buckle tongue resting comfortably in the middle hole, leaving you adjustment room either way.

And that’s it! Hope this helps you have more confidence In your next belt purchase. Thanks!
